Open Drive-In Movie Theaters Are Starting To Pop Up All Over Wisconsin
The pandemic may have put the kibosh on traditional movie theaters. But that doesn’t mean you have to forgo the entire silver screen experience. Drive-in theaters are the perfect loophole as far as social distancing guidelines go. Luckily, we’ve got several here in the Badger State, some of which have already opened for the 2020 season. A must-visit for savvy moviegoers, Big Sky Drive-In is a twin screen, so you get two movies for the price of one. Operating on a seasonal basis, the drive-in is open seven days a week, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Remember to stop by the ATM – Big Sky doesn’t accept credit cards, debit cards, or checks. And you’ll definitely want to grab some extra cash for concessions. The tasty offerings include everything from popcorn to the drive-in’s famous Mamaburger.

Showing movies every summer since 1950, Skyway is the place to go for an authentically retro drive-in experience. The seasonal one-screen theater typically operates May thru October and is tentatively scheduled to open for its 2020 season Memorial Day weekend.

Located about 1.5 miles south of Monroe and open since 1954, Sky-Vu is another option for a classic drive-in experience. Since opening, the drive-in has received several updates, including a huge screen that’s designed to deliver the brightest and sharpest image. There’s also an on-site concession stand where you can can stock up on Sky-Vu’s famous fresh-popped popcorn and signature homemade pizzas. The drive-in’s 2020 season is scheduled to begin in early June.

Already open for the 2020 season, Stardust is the last remaining drive-in theater in northern Wisconsin. And if you can have only one drive-in, Stardust is the one you want since the double-feature theater boasts several extras, like train rides, a playground, arcade, and candy shop.

Set to open for the 2020 season on May 29th, Field of Scenes has been a go-to for movie buffs since 2003. But it’s not just movies that draw people to the drive-in. There’s also its indoor concession stand, which serves up an array of tasty grub, including pizza and beer - and that’s in addition to mini-golf and sport courts.

A 90-foot screen is just the beginning of what this double-feature drive-in has to offer. Sure to be a hit with movie fans of all ages, the drive-in typically shows a cartoon before each feature movie and boasts a playground and even a bar! Keep in mind, the bar is open on weekends only. There’s also a concession stand that serves up an array of eats and sweets – a line is likely, so make sure to arrive early to give yourself enough time to grab some grub.
