Wisconsin has a lot of great broadcasters, but there’s one in Green Bay who is a true Wisconsin icon. Bill Jartz is someone you probably know well if you live in the Green Bay media market and if you’ve attended a Packers home game. You probably know his voice. Jartz is a Wisconsin native, and he’s left a big mark on the state during his long WBAY career – not just as a great journalist but as someone who supports a lot of important causes. Here’s a little bit about Wisconsin’s Bill Jartz,
WBAY is a television station in Green Bay that’s affiliated with ABC. It’s owned by an Atlanta-based media company called Gray Television. The station’s offices are located on South Jefferson Street in Downtown Green Bay, just across from the Brown County Courthouse.
The station has been on the air for 70 years, and it’s a fixture in the Green Bay area. A lot of great journalists have worked at the station over the years, and one of the best can be seen on the station’s nightly newscasts.
Bill Jartz is a Wisconsin native - he grew up in Clintonville, and he was an all-state football player. He attended Northwestern University on an athletic scholarship; and after a short stint working at WSAW in Wausau, he headed to Green Bay.
He began his career in Green Bay as the sports director, and he began performing play-by-play for Packers preseason games and hosting an award-winning show called “Monday Night Kick-Off.”
In 1998 he made the switch to the news desk and began serving as co-anchor – first during the 10 p.m. newscast and later during the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts.
He’s won many awards and accolades along the way, and he’s also supported great causes like Childrens Wisconsin and March of Dimes. And since 2005, he’s been the official Voice of Lambeau Field – you’ll hear his familiar voice during Packers home games.
I grew up in this media market – I remember watching him as a kid – and he’s had an incredible career. Learn more about Jartz and the latest Green Bay news on the WBAY website.
