This restaurant on National is now an incredible restaurant, but before that, it was a firehouse that holds much of Milwaukee's fire service history.

Before the building you see today existed, there was a different firehouse that was built in 1869. In 1901, the firehouse you see today was constructed and included a large tower which is now no more. Though it's been drastically changed, much of the old firehouse can be seen in the architecture.
The house was home to many notable firefighters, including driver Leonard Limberger, who assisted in finding the pyromaniac Matthew Thomet who admitted to starting many fires such as the Stadt Theater fire.

Peter Sandroni, a known Milwaukee restaurant owner, had his eye on the building because it was so close to his other restaurant, La Merenda, which is located two blocks east.

Sandroni worked hard to keep much of the charm and original material of the firehouse. Original wood is still in contact, as well as a brass fire pole near the staircase. The restaurant was even named after the firehouse!
