Milwaukee is bursting with greenery everywhere you look, but some things you have to look a little harder to find. This secret garden hidden in Milwaukee’s Lindsay Heights neighborhood is one of our city’s best-kept secrets. From breathtaking flowers to vegetables grown by community members, this garden holds much more than meets the eye.
Between 1948 and 1971, there was a construction freeway project planned and during this time, many areas of the neighborhood were torn down - only for the project to later be canceled. In 1971, a garden was planted in the vacant space where houses had been deconstructed on 21st and Garfield.

The garden is named in honor Alice Meade-Taylor, a Milwaukee advocate and former Executive Director of Milwaukee County Extension.
Not only does this garden strengthen the Lindsay Heights neighborhood, all are welcome to come plant something and watch grow. The garden is full of beautiful flowers and vegetables, all planted by Milwaukeeans!
The Labyrinth is a circle filled with healing herbs and plants in the center of Alice's Garden. Everyone is welcome to enter and take a breath to reflect on life and be present.
Alice's Garden has also recently started an initiative to bring people to the table.
There's so much to love about this beautiful, blooming space. One visit here and you'll be coming back every time you feel the need for a mini-escape into nature.
