With all of the advances in technology over the last few decades, people no longer have to visit their local library every time they want to write a paper, learn about the world around them, or find an entertaining way to pass the time. Still, nothing can replace the experience of visiting a library in person and setting out on your next literary adventure. This is especially true if your library is anywhere near as impressive as the Central Library in Milwaukee.
Welcome to the Central Library in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. From the outside, you might guess this was some kind of palace or government building, but it's actually just another branch of the public library.
Well, maybe not "just another branch." As you can see, this library is massive. The French and Italian Renaissance-style building has seen many additions since it opened in 1898. It now covers an entire city block.
This local landmark also has a fascinating history. In its early years, it served as a museum in addition to a library. For a while in 1939, it even housed a lion named Simba on the fourth floor.
Stop by the library and check out a book, visit the book shop or cafe, or even take a tour. Tours meet in the rotunda at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday mornings.
Whether you're one or one hundred, you will not forget a visit to Milwaukee's Central Library. If you ask us, it's one of the best attractions in town, and it's absolutely free.
