There are some beautiful sights in Wisconsin that are hiking in plain sight. In Pembine, Wisconsin, there’s a breathtaking hidden waterfall that you can reach with just a short stroll through the woods. It’s called Long Slide Falls and it’s a natural wonder. The falls roar and tumble through the dense forest, giving hikers a chance to see the power of nature on full display. Here’s why you should take the trek to Long Slide Falls.
Long Slide Falls is located near the Marinette County community of Pembine. It’s a doable day trip from northeast Wisconsin and a good activity to build into a trip to the county.
The waterfall is located on the North Branch of the Pemebonwon River, a wild 6.1-mile-long river that flows into the Menominee River. It’s not a very long hike to the falls – within a few minutes of leaving the parking area, you’ll hear the roar of the water.
There are two places to view the falls. One short trail will give you a nice view of the upper portion of the falls and a second wider path will take you down to the base of the falls.
As far as waterfalls go, you won’t mistake this waterfall for Niagara Falls. But it’s not exactly a trickle of a falls either – the water roars and tumbles through the narrow and rocky gorge.
It’s possible to visit Long Slide Falls year round – be sure to dress for the season and the weather. Marinette County has a lot of wonderful waterfalls – a short drive away from Long Slide Falls you’ll find another great waterfall called Smalley Falls. Learn more on the Marinette County website. While you’re in Marinette County, you might also consider chasing ghosts at this haunted hotel on a hidden island.
