In northern Wisconsin, there’s a vacation rental waiting for you that’s as beautiful as it is unusual. The Terra Cotta Yurt is just what it sounds – an earth-colored yurt, a structure that’s tucked into the forest near Bayfield. The yurt is open for guests who are willing to take on a lot of beauty, a lot of adventure, and a vacation like no other. Here’s what you need to know about the Terra Cotta Yurt.
The yurt is tucked into the wild and beautiful Bayfield County Forest. It’s a bit of an adventure getting there – you’ll need to hike, bike, snowshoe, or ski in. The trail is a little under a mile, and it’s pretty much all uphill.
The effort is worth it. You’ll enjoy solitude and some astounding beauty. While the yurt is affordable, it comes with a million-dollar view. There’s a large deck from which to take it all in.
The yurt offers a sweeping view of Lake Superior, and you can actually see four of the Apostle Islands from the deck (Madeline, Basswood, Stockton, and Michigan). You can even see the lighthouse on Michigan Island!
In the summer, you may be able to enjoy some free music. The yurt is a little over a mile from Big Top Chautauqua, and from June to September you can hear some world-class music faintly drifting through the trees.
If you are into silent sports, this unique accommodation is a perfect base camp. Your reservation comes with a trail pass to access miles of cross-country ski trails, snowshoe trails, and hiking trails – if you can convince yourself to leave the cozy yurt.
The space inside is clean and comfortable. It’s heated with a wood stove so it’s cozy year-round. You can enjoy meals under the Northwoods sky on an outdoor table.
Learn more about booking a night at The Terra Cotta Yurt here. While the experience is incredible, it is camping – be prepared for changing weather conditions and mosquitoes. You’ll need to keep your food outside the yurt – there are bears in the area! If you enjoy unusual getaways, here’s a quirky getaway spot in Dodgeville.
