The One Hikeable Island In Wisconsin That's Simply Breathtaking In The Fall
There’s an island in Wisconsin that you don’t need a boat to reach – all you need to explore Governor’s Island is a pair of walking shoes. This Madison island is not one of the area’s best known attractions, but it’s a beautiful place for a Wisconsin fall walk. Here’s what you need to know about hiking Governor’s Island.

It is situated to the north of the city of Madison, and it is part of the Yahara River chain of lakes.

There are a few places where it’s possible to enjoy a nice lakeshore hike.

To reach the island you’ll pass the hospital’s grounds and travel down a steep road to the lake.

The island covers 60 acres, and it has a hiking path that traces the shore. If you hike the road in, you can enjoy a walk that’s about a mile in length.

There also used to be a building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright on the island, but it burned down in the 1930s.

I’ve enjoyed some nice walks on this little island – it’s a true hidden gem. Learn more about the Governor’s Island Loop, track your hike, and read trail reviews on AllTrails Plus. Interested in some more awesome fall activities? Here’s what to see and do in Wisconsin.
