The dog days of summer are right around the corner. We’re talking about those sultry days where just standing seems to produce heat. Well, luckily, there are some super great ways to cool off in Wisconsin this summer. Here are 12.
1. Wisconsin Dells
There is no shortage of water parks in Wisconsin. Head to Wisconsin Dells for your pick of the litter, so to speak. Noah's Ark is always a favorite, but why not check out a few you've not been to this year?
2. Tubing
The state activity should be declared tubing, because who among us did not grow up screaming for their life on the back of a boat? Make new memories with the kiddos, but be sure to re-experience it yourself.
3. Frozen Custard
Eat your weight in frozen custard. There is no better time to figure out which Wisconsin provider truly does serve the best frozen custard. Note: this will take a lot of research.
4. Pewit's Nest
Sure, there are plenty of awesome pools to hit up this season, but why not go to a good old fashioned swimming hole? Located in Baraboo, Pewit's Nest seems like a magical place, and it's a place that will certainly cool you down.
5. Kayaking
Getting out on the water is one of the nicest things to do on a hot summer day in Wisconsin. Kayaking lets you explore new places, or old places from a completely new vantage point. You can stick to kayaking at the local lake, but one option is to kayak the impressive Apostle Islands.
6. Rafting
Wisconsin rivers offer some awesome experiences for rafters. We recommend the people at Kosir's Rapid Rafts. You'll get some incredible tours of the Menominee & Peshtigo rivers.
7. Big Manitou Falls
This isn't water you can jump into, but perhaps you can spend the day chasing waterfalls? We guarantee that just looking at this waterfall as it rumbles 165 feet will cool you down.
8. Windsurfing
You can go windsurfing and standard surfing in Wisconsin, believe it or not. You might be a little more successful doing windsurfing, though. If you're going through Fond du Lac, we recommend Wind Power Surf Shop to help get you started.
9. Beach
Yes, the rumors are true: there are some great beaches in Wisconsin. Some of our favorites are: Whitefish Dunes State Park, North Beach, and Schoolhouse Beach.
10. Drive-in Theater
On hot days, there's no better place to be than at the drive-in. The temperature will go down as you move into the double feature. Further cool down with some ice cold beverages.
11. Fishing
Whether you are angling from a boat or the shore, Wisconsin offers copious fishing opportunities. There are far too many places to recommend, but one of these days you definitely need to fish the Bois Brule River, a river that several U.S. presidents have fished.
12. Great River Road
Why even get out of your car when you can blast the AC and still see beautiful Wisconsin? If you're looking for an exceptional drive, we highly recommend the Great River Road. It spans 250 miles, and it goes through 33 cities that are truly phenomenal.
