There’s a little town in Wisconsin that’s home to something pretty incredible. Trempealeau is a village on the Mississippi River that’s well known for great dining, river history, and the scenic Perrot State Park. But one of the most remarkable things here is hiding in plain sight, a trail that takes you back a thousand years. Here’s what you need to know about the Little Bluff Mounds Trail, a historic Wisconsin hike.
Trempealeau (population 1,800) is a village along the Mississippi River that was settled by European immigrants in the mid-1800s. But its history goes back much, much farther.
The trail is open to the public, but the bluff property is owned by the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church ELCA. It’s maintained by the Friends of Little Bluff, and it's protected forever by the Mississippi Valley Conservancy. It’s a gorgeous property, located right next to another conservancy property and Perrot State Park. Hike carefully on this special historic and protected place.
You should definitely take some time to explore and learn bout the Little Bluff Mounds Interpretive Trail and other protected places in the region. Interested in exploring more special places in Wisconsin? Here’s where to find some other top Wisconsin attractions.
