In the heart of Wisconsin’s dairy land, there’s a place that turns out some delicious cheese and there’s not a cow anywhere in sight. LaClare Family Creamery has some of the best goat cheese in Wisconsin and if you love great local food, the creamery is a perfect day trip destination. Here’s what you need to know about LaClare Family Creamery.
If you want more Wisconsin restaurants, make sure to sign up for our weekly dining newsletter. Every Thursday, a new eatery to try in the Badger State will be delivered straight to your email. Yum!
The creamery is located in the Fond du Lac community of Malone – it’s located near Lake Winnebago and it’s an easy day trip from places like Milwaukee, Madison, and Green Bay.
The creamery is one of the only entirely-domestically produced goat cheese brands in the country and all the milk comes from goats that live within 15 miles of the creamery.
You can meet some milk goats on a self-guided tour of the facility. Viewing windows offer a behind-the-scenes view of the cheesemaking process and during the late spring and summer you can visit with goats – if you’re lucky, you may even be able to hold a baby goat.
The creamery shoots for perfection in its cheesemaking and if you taste the cheese here, you’ll sample something incredible. The creamery produces a classic original goat cheese, as well as special flavors like cranberry cinnamon, blueberry vanilla, chipotle honey, and fig & honey.
You can purchase the creamery’s cheese in a shop on site. The shop has some unique cheese flavors as well as ice cream, wine, and a variety of specialty products.
If you’re hungry, head to LaClare’s on-site cafe. It serves up a fresh variety of sandwiches, flatbreads, and salads that use LaClare’s cheese. There’s also a seasonal garden center that you may want to visit if you’re in the market for plants.
Learn more about the business on the LaClare Family Creamery website. You may want to make a stop at the creamery part of a trip around Lake Winnebago – it’s an epic road trip that will also take you past cliffs, beaches and orchards.
