There are a lot of restaurants in Wisconsin that have had a celebrity diner or two, but there’s one that has served just about every celebrity, including the Chairman of the Board. Mader's is about as storied as Wisconsin restaurants get. It's in the heart of Milwaukee, a city settled by German immigrants. In its thick fortress-like walls, Mader's keeps tradition alive.
When you step inside, you'll be transported back in time. Things are a little more refined than the restaurant's earliest days, but it's still traditionally German to the core.
Over the years, the restaurant has served or catered to a laundry list of famous people. While the dark but classic decor and classic German dishes probably suited Sinatra just fine, it also been enjoyed by musicians like Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eric Clapton, Liberace, Katie Perry, and the Foo Fighters.
If you can't decide what to order, go with the pork shank. It's served with an apple demi glaze, red potatoes, and choice of red cabbage or sauerkraut. Oh, and it was also the favorite dish of Vince Lombard!
The German sampler is also a good bet - it has Wiener schnitzel, Kassler Rippchen, and Rheinischer sauerbraten with potato dumpling, sauerkraut, and red cabbage. It was inspired by a politician who ate here - John F. Kennedy!
Was Sinatra was onto something? See for yourself and make a reservation for Mader’s Restaurant on its website. It’s definitely one of the best restaurants in Milwaukee!
