For an unforgettably delicious meal in a setting to match, you can’t go wrong with a visit to Maria’s Pizza. A timeless classic, it’s been serving up some of the Midwest’s tastiest thin crust pizza for decades. The pies aren’t the only thing that’s remained a constant, though. Since opening in the 1950s, operating Maria’s Pizza has been a family affair. Take a look:

A Milwaukee staple, Maria’s Pizza has been delighting diners with delicious pies in a fun, quirky setting since 1957.
Both restaurants were opened by Maria Traxel. Sticking to her roots, Traxel, who was 100% Italian, wanted to open a spaghetti restaurant, but her customers wanted pizza – and the rest is history.
The pizza’s hallmark is a perfectly thin crust that’s nice and crispy…at first. Once the cheese and toppings soak into the crust, it softens up a bit, enabling it to be folded over or even rolled up like a burrito.
Keeping things simple, the pizza comes in just two sizes: a 14” round pie or an 18” rectangle pie. Regardless of which size you order, it’ll be served on a baking sheet that can barely contain it.
The topping selection isn’t huge, either. However, it includes all the classics, such as pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, green peppers, black olives, and onions.
The classic features don’t end there, though. Since opening, Maria’s has only accepted one method of payment – cash – so make sure to stop by the ATM before your visit.
Hours are 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday-Sunday. For more information, call Maria’s Pizza at (414) 543-4606. You can also visit the Maria’s Pizza Facebook page.
