Secret Garden In Wisconsin
What are some of the best gardens in Wisconsin?
From butterfly gardens to secret fairy gardens, Wisconsin has plenty of beautiful botanical gardens to enjoy. Here are a few of the best gardens in Wisconsin, some of which you may not know about yet:
- Rudolph Grotto Gardens, Rudolph, WI: This tiny town of 400 residents is hiding a secret garden that will surprise you. The garden and park were built by Father Philip Wagner as a religious shrine in the early 1900s. Today it has that old-world feel that makes you believe in fairies. Rudolph Grotto is around five acres and includes stone-lined paths, stone arches, and a cool feature called the Wonder Cave - a neat tunnel that contains 26 shrines modeled after the Catacombs in Rome
- Longenecker Horticultural Gardens, Madison, WI: The University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum is one of our favorite places to go for a nature walk in Wisconsin. A 35-acre section of the 1,200-acre arboretum is dedicated to the Longenecker Gardens. The garden is used as a living classroom for horticultural students, but that doesn't mean we all can't enjoy it too. You'll enjoy everything from flowering fruit trees to perennials, shrubs, and beautifully maintained annuals.
- Boerner Botanical Gardens, Milwaukee, WI: If roses make your heart sing, we have a treat for you. Boerner Botanical Gardens is inside Milwaukee's Whitnall Park and it's a true gem. The rose garden dates back to 1939 when Nationally known rose expert Eugene Boerne planted the first batch of roses. Today, there are over 3,000 different species of roses! Since 2021 the garden has been dedicated to natural pest control making the entire garden bee and pollinator safe so you are bound to see plenty of butterflies, birds, and bees happily enjoying a snack.
