Wisconsin is cranberry country and it’s hard to find a more spectacular place than a cranberry marsh, right before harvest. The state is one of the country’s top cranberry producers – in Central Wisconsin, there are a ton of cranberry producers who grow fruit used in the juices and dried berries sold all over the country. It’s an incredible sight, and many of these producers offer public tours that give visitors a chance to see the operation up close. One grower takes things a step further and creates a photo opp that can’t be beaten. The farm also has some amazing cranberry products you might not know exist. Read on to see what you can experience at Dempze Cranberry Farm and its store, Rooted in Red.
The farm is located at ground zero for cranberry growing: Wisconsin Rapids. The climate and terrain in the area are ideal for cranberry growing, and there are some huge cranberry marshes here.
Dempze Cranberry’s roots date to before World War II and it’s currently operated by Jamie and Rocky Biegel. Rocky played a key role in developing hybrid cranberry vines with the University of Wisconsin’s horticulture department.
The farm has a business Called Rooted in Red that sells natural cranberry products, holds special events, and offers traditional marsh tours in August and September. You can ride a wagon out to the marsh and learn about local cranberry history, the century-old farm, and how cranberries are pollinated, grown, and harvested.
The farm offers a cranberry immersion experience that allows participants to wade into the marsh with waders on. It makes for an awesome photo experience – up your Instagram game or create the perfect Christmas card!
Once you’ve got your perfect photo, visit the farm’s store, Rooted in Red - it sells a huge variety of cranberry products, including hand lotion, hand wash, cranberry honey, and more.
You can find more information about a traditional tour here. You can reserve the full immersion experience here. Interested in more Wisconsin photo ops? Check out these jaw-dropping photo locations.
