In the heart of Northern Wisconsin, the village of Winter is a serene and inviting destination that truly lives up to its name – especially during the winter season. Far from being a place to hibernate, Winter is a small Wisconsin town that beckons visitors to embrace the eponymous season with a cozy retreat that delivers plenty of winter fun. Here’s why you should make plans to embrace winter with a trip to Winter.
Winter is a village located in Sawyer County, Wisconsin. It's located in the northwestern part of the state, close to the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, and it’s home to about 300 people. It was once a logging town.
Like many places in northern Wisconsin it receives a ton of snow every winter.

There isn’t a lot of development here - this is a small town – but when Winter’s quiet streets are adorned with snow, the place is where snow lovers want to be.
The village is a gateway to a multitude of winter activities. This is snowmobile country, and there are endless trails to explore. There are also nearby silent sports trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
At the end of a long day in the snow, a little time in a Winter lodging property might be just what you need.
Stop in at a local cafe or tavern, and order some Wisconsin cheese curds and an Old Fashioned – you’ll likely make a few friends while you enjoy your Wisconsin treats!
Winter isn't just about the activities; it's about embracing the tranquility and beauty of the season.
The serene ambiance, the crunch of snow underfoot, and the breathtaking landscapes might be just what you need.
Winter is located in one of my favorite areas of the state – I wish I could visit more often! Learn more about Winter on the Town of Winter website, and get all your hiking supplies at REI.
