Somewhat deceiving, the name in no way alludes to what’s housed inside the store, which is an array of homemade fudge, chocolates, and candies.

In the business of sweets since 1964, the store churns out some of the state’s best treats. Throughout the years, the longtime local favorite has been recognized on several occasions, including winning the Wisconsin State Fair Award of Excellence for various products.

The sweet shop’s success can be partly attributed to the fact that the candy is made the old-fashioned way: slow-cooked in a copper kettle and cooled on marble tables.

Quality ingredients, such as Wisconsin sweet cream and butter, are also behind the treats’ tastiness.

It’s not just homemade confections you’ll find at the Country Store of Eagle River, though.

The store also carries an array of classic candies and old-fashioned favorites.

At the Country Store of Eagle River, *variety* is the name of the game. The saltwater taffy, for example, comes in 30 different flavors.

And with 24 flavors to choose from, the ice cream selection is nearly as diverse.

Craving more than a cone? No problem; the ice cream counter also serves up sundaes, shakes, malts, sodas, and smoothies.

The Country Store of Eagle River opens at 10 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and at 9 a.m. on Saturdays. In response to the COVID pandemic, the store is currently offering curbside pick-up.
