The Lake Michigan shoreline provides some of the best scenic views in Wisconsin, and one special park offers a vista that will take your breath away. Just north of Milwaukee, Lion’s Den Gorge is a natural area that’s flanked by a spectacular sandy cliff. It’s an incredible view in any season and well worth the short hike. Here’s the view that’s waiting for you at Lion’s Den Gorge.
Lion's Den Gorge is a beautiful nature preserve located in Ozaukee County, Wisconsin, on the western shore of Lake Michigan. It’s a short drive south of Port Washington.
The preserve covers over 73 acres, and it gives visitors a chance to experience the unique geological features and diverse natural habitats of this part of the state.
Visitors can hike through the preserve on several miles of trails that wind through dense forests, past wetlands, and along the shore of Lake Michigan.
But many people come just for the view. From the parking lot, head straight to the lake and prepare to be amazed. The sweeping 100-foot-tall-sand bluffs offer a panoramic vista. You can see for miles!
If you want to continue further, you can hike across a small bridge and follow a series of staircases down to the water’s edge. But you may want to stay where you are, grab a seat, and just soak up this amazing view!
The park is especially pretty early in the morning when the sun is low, but use caution on the trail at the top of the bluff. Learn more on the Lion’s Den Gorge website. Interested in more breathtaking views? Check out more of Wisconsin’s incredible natural attractions.
