For more than 20 years, the Christkindl Market down in Chicago has been one of the premier German heritage events. Held every winter in Daley Plaza, the recreation of the outdoor Christmas markets you’ll find in Germany and across Europe has drawn folks from Wisconsin to visit and experience this unique holiday market. But now, Wisconsinites won’t have to coordinate travel by train or car and push their way through crowds of Illinoisans to experience and enjoy this really amazing bit of German culture. The same folks that put on that spectacular display have created a satellite location taking place right here in Milwaukee next to the city’s new Fiserv Forum arena. Opening on November 17 and staying open every night through New Year’s Eve, the market promises to be everything you loved about the Chicago version but much closer to home.
With our abundance of German heritage and influences, it only makes sense for the Chrsitkindl Market to have an outpost here in Wisconsin. And with the new area next to the Fiserv Forum, there's a perfect location for it.
Traditionally held in the town square, Christmas markets have food, drink, and seasonal items from open-air stalls accompanied by traditional singing and dancing.
The market is just a wonderful celebration of the season. And since it's open for so long here in Milwaukee, you can head down to shop and fill out your Christmas list or you can head down just for a meal or snack and drink.
The stalls are filled with traditional German wares and wonderful bits imported from all over Europe. You'll find tons of unique presents to buy for everyone on your list.
It's hard to describe the appeal of the enchanting market — it just has to be experienced. There's just something magical about the sparkling lights and the chilly air and sharing in the fun of the season with everyone else who's there.
Aside from the outdoor stalls, you'll find some enclosed spaces for eating, drinking and listening to music. Head in to warm up a bit before you make your way through the rest of the market.
Christkindl Market is truly a unique and wonderful experience and it will transform this bit of Milwaukee into a European town square for a few short weeks.
Whether you take a date or your whole family, everyone will love feeling like they've been transported to Europe for a few hours as you stroll, shop and revel in the Christmas cheer.
With such a long run, you have no excuse not to head to the market for some gluhwein, pretzels, and shopping. It's the perfect way to kick off your holiday season.
