There are a lot of great things to enjoy in Wisconsin, but arguably the state’s best offerings come from the state’s dairy tradition. Farm fresh Wisconsin cheese is hard to beat and there’s nothing like getting it right from the source. A factory in the little town of Wilson is a little off the beaten path but worth seeking out if you crave the very best Wisconsin cheese. Here’s what’s waiting for you at Cady Cheese Factory in Wisconsin.
If you want more Wisconsin restaurants, make sure to sign up for our weekly dining newsletter. Every Thursday, a new eatery to try in the Badger State will be delivered straight to your email. Yum!
You’ll find this factory in the little town of Wilson – it’s located in the beautiful farm country between River Falls and Menomonie.
The factory has a long history. It was founded back in 1908, a time when cheese factories dotted the countryside in Wisconsin. Most have disappeared, but some wonderful factories like Cady remain in operation. Cady was acquired by Burnett Dairy Cooperative in 2012 and it’s still going strong.
Cady Cheese Factory and Store is the place to go to stock up on delicious Wisconsin cheese. If you have a ways to drive, you might want to bring a cooler – they sell over 100 varieties!
Cady produces standards like cheddar (mild, medium and sharp), as well as more unusual varieties like rosemary gouda and triple pepper. Because it’s made on site, it’s all very fresh.
If you like fresh and squeaky cheese curds, look no further. You can buy the freshest and squeakiest at Cady – you may be able to enjoy some that were made on the same day you arrive.
While the cheese is pretty incredible, this is not the only dairy product that Cady produces. If fresh and creamy ice cream is your thing, you’ll find a lot to love here.
Cady Cheese Factory and Gift Shop is open daily. The store also sells gifts, and gourmet local products including jams, syrups, salsas, candy, and more. Learn more on the factory store’s website. If you love exploring Wisconsin’s cheese factories, here’s an epic cheese trail you’ll want to follow.
