Just like any other state, Wisconsin has its fair share of local lore and legends. One of the most notorious tales associated with the state is that of the Beast of Bray Road. Stories about the unusual creature that haunts Wisconsin’s Bray Road have been circulating for decades. And as more details have emerged, the beast only gets more mysterious and intriguing. The story of the Beast of Bray Road begins in the small town of Elkhorn, which is about 40 miles southwest of Milwaukee.
Because of the plethora of sightings, the Walworth County Week, a local newspaper, sent a reporter to interview witnesses. Though initially skeptical, the reporter became convinced the Beast of Bray Road was real.
Those who spotted what would later become known as the Beast of Bray Road described it in varying ways. Some have dubbed it a “bear like” creature, somewhat like Bigfoot, while others describe it as an “intelligent werewolf-like creature.”
Despite the varying descriptions, all witnesses agree on one thing – the beast is freakishly large, weighing between 400 and 700 pounds! Furthermore, it’s estimated to be about two feet and four feet tall when on all fours and about seven feet tall when standing on its hind legs.
Over the years, people have tried to find logical ways to explain the beast. Theories regarding its species have included everything from an Amarok, which is a mythological wolf-like animal, to a wolfdog.
