Looking for something to do in West Virginia, but don’t wanna spend a lot of money? There are a lot of cheap, but fun things to do here. Here are 12 of them.
1. See a West Virginia Power game
Tickets are $8 and there are promotions and specials going on all the time. For instance, Mondays are Family Buck Night, when tickets are $1 for general admission and $3 for box seats.
The season will continue through Sept. 7.
2. See the Huntington Museum of Art
Admission is generally $5 per person, but it’s free on Tuesdays. Admission is free for kids under 18, and for the families of active duty military personnel and veterans.
3. Waves of Fun waterpark in Hurricane
$10 or less (depending on your height) will get you into the pool, though if you want to rent a tube, those cost $5. Children age 4 and under get in free. There’s also a senior discount ($8 for people 55 and older) and a military discount ($6 each, spouse and children included).
4. Visit the West Virginia Botanic Garden
Located in Morgantown, it’s free and open to the public from dawn until dusk.
5. See the State Museum at the West Virginia Culture Center
Come learn about the state's history. Admission is free.
6. The science and art museums at the Clay Center in Charleston
Admission to the museum galleries is $7.50 for adults and $6 for kids. Admission to the planetarium is $6.50 for adults and $5.50 for kids. For more information, see theclaycenter.org.
7. The Good Zoo at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling
Admission to the zoo is $8.95 for adults and $5.75 for children 3 through 12. Children 2 and under get in free.
8. Tour the Greenbank Telescope
Public tours are $6 for adults and $3.50 for children 7 through 12. Children 6 and under get in free.
9.See most shows at the Purple Fiddle
While the price of the shows varies depending on the band, for the most part you can see live music at this West Virginia establishment for $10 or less.
10. Play (coal-themed) mini golf.
A round of golf at Coal Country Miniature Golf and Batting Cages in Fairmont is $5.75 for adults and $4.75 for children under 12 and seniors.
11. See live animals at the West Virginia Wildlife Center
Admission to the Wildlife Center in Upshur County is $3 for adults and $1.50 for kids. Children under 3 get in free.
12. Get a guided tour of the Mystery Hole in Ansted.
What is it? I’m not sure because I’ve never been. But whatever the mystery is, it's sure to be memorable. Admission is $6.50 for adults and $5.50 for children 11 and under.
