Coopers Rock State Forest was named after a legend of a fugitive that was hiding from the law close to the overlook. He was a skilled cooper and so he made barrels and sold them to the locals.

Blackwater Falls State Park is one of the most photographed locations in the state. If you have ever seen a nature calendar or postcard about WV, it was more than likely of these falls.

Blennerhassett Island State Park, located in Parkersburg, WV, looks like it was the forest that the Big Bad Wolf followed Little Red Riding Hood.

The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, located in Weston, WV, is the largest, and by far the scariest, hand-cut stone masonry building in North America.
History and hauntings captivate the mind at the infamous Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum, where thousands of locals were mistreated in years past. Today, visitors can tour it on select dates. This spooky landmark can be found at 71 Asylum Dr c, Weston, WV 26452.
Spruce Knob is the highest point in the state of West Virginia. Although it is incredibly breathtaking, I wouldn't be able to handle my ears popping.
At the summit of Spruce Mountain in Monongahela National Forest, adventurous visitors will reach the impressive height of 4,863 feet. Find it near FR 104 in Seneca Rocks, WV.
In 1943-44, the U.S. Army used this area, Dolly Sods Wilderness, as a practice artillery and range before the troops were sent to fight in WWII.
Some of the artillery shot into the area still exist today. In 1997, workers made 32,594 excavations and discovered and detonated 14 live mortar bombs. Talk about peaceful! Visit this scenic spot near Dry Fork, WV 26260.
While the town of Moundsville is not completely breathtaking, it is completely packed with history.
Pictured here is an native American burial ground. While the grounds at the mounds are gorgeous, there is so much more to do than just take in the beauty. The Seneca Caverns, which are limestone, are incredibly creepy but amazing.
The largest room inside the cave is the Teter Hall, which is 60 feet tall. The first recorded entry in this cave came circa 1781, and locals have been intrigued by its existence ever since. Visit Seneca Caverns at 3328 Germany Valley Rd, Riverton, WV 26814.
This reservoir in Nicholas County has over 60 miles of shoreline, offering all sorts of summertime communities that locals love. Find it on the Gauley River south of Summersville.
The Greenbrier, a four-star luxury resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV, is home to the Greenbrier Classic Golf Tournament. The Greenbrier is beyond beautiful, and words cannot describe it. This resort is cookie cutter perfect.

Cass Scenic Railroad is the definition of tranquility, other than the loud train horn.

Watoga State Park is the largest of West Virginia's state parks.

Cranberry Glades, also known as The Glades, is a cluster of five bogs high in the Allegheny Mountains. Nothing screams fun like a bog!

The Upper Gauley River is best known for photos like this one, where people are white-water rafting.
