In West Virginia, there are plenty of places to explore at ground level, the trees rising above you. But there are not many where the treetops themselves flank your path. This adventure park has three.
Adventures on the Gorge is a adventure park in Lansing that offers many adventures, one of which is the Treetops Canopy Tour.
For this half-day tour, you will travel across five sky bridges, 10 ziplines, a few short hikes and even a rappel. This guided tour, which operates all year long, will provide harnesses, helmets, and gloves. The minimum age requirement is 10.
If you would prefer an adventure that eschews the sky bridges, hikes and the rappel in favor of just ziplines, then the Gravity Zip Lines tour is for you. This one offers nothing but straight ziplining over a 1.5 mile course comprised of six separate lines, the largest of which sends you rocketing over the trees at 60 to 65 miles per hour. The minimum age for this one is 12.
If you would prefer a treetop adventure that moves a little slower, some time at the TimberTrek Adventure Park is the way to go. For this self-guided tour, you can move at your own pace across four acres and more than 60 platforms.
As you make your way across this aerial path, the platforms and obstacles rise in both height and difficulty as they become more unstable, allowing you to test your strength and agility along the way. There will be park staff that will serve as lifeguards to help you if you get stuck or simply offer guidance.
If you want a slightly bigger challenge, you can take the MoonTrek tour, which is the same path after dark. The minimum age for both tours is 6, but all participants under 14 are supervised and restricted from some levels.
The park also offers whitewater rafting, paintball, laser tag, hiking, horseback riding, fishing, lodging, climbing, rappelling, kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding. They even have a kid's camp for your little ones while you take some of the more challenging park tours. So no matter what the adventure, this is a park designed for everyone. Adventures on the Gorge is located at 219 Chestnutburg Rd. in Lansing.
