Come along with us to Princeton, West Virginia on a tried-and-true day trip that will take you from one end of town to the other on a memorable adventure. Princeton is one of the Mountain State’s up-and-coming areas, filled with interesting museums, delicious restaurants, and unique small businesses. Here’s how to spend a full, memorable day in this area of Almost Heaven.
In our opinion and based on our experience, any visit to Princeton should start here, at the West Virginia Tourist Information Center. Within these walls, you'll find not only information about how best to enjoy all the best that Princeton has to offer, but you'll also find an overwhelming amount of inspiration for planning future road trips.
We left this visitors center with a stack of tourist brochures and advice that we're still sorting through. Plus, there's a West-Virginia-Made gift shop!
Your next stop is just five minutes down the road, and it deals with the most important aspect of any road trip: food. Welcome to Dolly's Diner.
Next up? The Princeton Railroad Museum. One of the town's top attractions, this museum does a great job of presenting the history of the railroad as well as many fun examples of it. It's a fascinating stop for train lovers and history buffs alike.
Despite a huge lunch and some great desserts at Dolly's, we managed to save some room for some Berkshire's Old Fashioned Frozen Custard. This creamy treat is a must for anyone in the area.
For another sweet tooth fix, don't miss the chance to grab a Totally Glazed donut while you're in Princeton.
If you can time your trip to coincide with a show at the Chuck Mathena Center, do it. The productions that this premier performing arts center put on are astounding.
In terms of outdoor recreation in Princeton, there are a few good options right in town. Glenwood Recreational Park is a small but beautiful area on the outskirts of Princeton that features a scenic mountain lake.
For a more traditional park that includes a playground, a swimming pool, disc golf, and hiking trails, try the Princeton Youth Park, also known as the Princeton City Park.
