Harrisville, West Virginia. What do you know about it? It’s a small town in northwestern West Virginia and the county seat of Ritchie County. It was founded by Thomas Harris, who moved his family here in 1807. It was chartered in 1832 under the name “Solus”. It was renamed Harrisville in honor of the founder’s nephew (a General) in 1895. And to this day, it is home to the oldest and longest continuously operating five and dime store in America, which opened here in 1908.
Welcome to Berdine's Five and Dime (also known as Berdine's 5 & Dime), a historic gift shop and variety store located at 106 North Court Street in the Harrisville, West Virginia Historic District.
The Berdine family owned and operated the store from its founding until 1983 when it transferred hands to the Six Family, who have continued the Berdine family's long tradition of high-quality service.
Oak floors. Tin ceilings. Original display cases. Old-fashioned toys and candies. These are just the beginning of the classic treasures you'll find hidden away inside Berdine's!
