Dining out in the Mountain State can be as adventurous as, say, hiking along the Endless Wall Trail. The business of getting to your destination is half the fun. Sometimes the best places to dine in West Virginia are hiding in plain sight – you just need to know where to look.
For instance, in this Google image captured on W Main Street in Clarksburg, there is a hidden door that leads to a (mostly) secret restaurant. Do you SEE it?
Once you find that door, you'll soon be high up on the top floor of a little known eatery called The Fifth Floor. (Heads up: they also specialize in Martinis!)
The eatery has a whole bank of floor-to-ceiling windows that provide one of the best views of the city and surrounding hills that you'll find in Clarksburg. So, at least on your first adventure, go during the day to see the view!
It may be difficult to focus on the gorgeous rooftop views once your meal arrives. The Fifth Floor has a variety of burgers, sandwiches, salads, and soups to satisfy even the most demanding of appetites.
It's on 3rd Street. Just down the block from the intersection with W. Main Street. And nope, it's not that big door in the middle of the photo below. It's that door under the black and white awning. But even still, that's just the door to the building... that won't get you to the restaurant, exactly.
You'll need to pop through the door on the street and walk all the way down this narrow corridor (looks like an office building) to the elevator at the end of the hall. Pop inside, press 5, and voila, you'll be there!
The street-level entrance to the hidden elevator that goes up to The Fifth Floor is located at 134 S 3rd St,, Clarksburg, WV 26301. It’s open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday. The hours are: Tuesday – Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Friday 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., and Saturday 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Learn more from The Fifth Floor’s Facebook page.
