West Virginia has rightly earned the nickname “The Mountain State,” and so there is an abundance of stunning mountaintop views. Check out these spots from around the state where you can see for miles around.
The Brooks Overlook is a roadside pull-off along WV Route 20, five and a half miles north of Hinton. It provides a beautiful view of the Upper New River.
This spot near the visitor's center provides a great view of the New River Gorge and its famous bridge.

Most visitors reach this overlook by train, riding on the historic Cass Scenic Railroad. The observation deck provides a wonderful view of the Allegheny Mountains.

The most famous spot in Coopers Rock State Forest can be accessible by car or a longer hike, depending on your preferences. It provides amazing views of Cheat Canyon, the Snake Hill Wildlife Area, and Morgantown.
This lesser known overlook at Coopers Rock also provides great views, after a 2 mile hike.
The overlook at Hawk's Nest State Park near Ansted, West Virginia shows a portion of the C&O railroad and a fantastic view of the New River.

North Fork Mountain is the driest Appalachian mountain. It is topped with quartzite and has a different variety of plants than the wetter mountains nearby.
The high altitude here gives a great view of the valley below, and is home to many plants that are normally not seen south of Canada.
Fort Boreman was used during the Civil War by the Union Army to make sure the B&O railroad was not taken over by the confederate army. Now the location provides a beautiful view of Parkersburg.
Spruce Knob is the highest peak in the Allegheny Mountains. There's a lookout tower at the top which provides an amazing view of the dense spruce forests.
The summit at Seneca Rocks is considered the only "true peak" on the East Coast, meaning that technical rock climbing skills are needed to reach it. For those who have the skills, the view is incredible.
