It should come as no surprise to anyone that the most popular religion in West Virginia is Christianity. But have you ever wondered just how religious each county in West Virginia is?
This information was collected by the Association of Religious Data Archives, which used information from 2010. The list reflects the total number of religious people for each county compared to the number of people.
These are the most religious counties in the Mountain State:
In Marshall County, about 42.8 percent of people are religious. Most (5,541 of the total 33,107) are mainline Protestants, 4,040 are Catholic, and 2,722 are evangelical Protestants.
In Tucker County, has 43 percent of residents are religious. Most (1,589 of the 7,141) are mainline Protestant and 1,023 are evangelical Protestants.

In Grant County, 43 percent of people are religious. They’re about equal numbers of mainline and evangelical Christians.

In Marion County, 45 percent of people are religious. Most (10,344 of the 56,418) are mainline Protestant and 7,649 are evangelical Protestant.
In Wood County, 45 percent of people are religious. Most of them (20,360 of the 86,956) are mainline Protestant and 13,623 are evangelical Protestant.

In Wetzel County, 46 percent of people are religious. There are 3615 evangelical Protestants and 3095 mainline Protestants there out of the total 16,583 population.
In Harrison County, about half the people are religious. Most (16,442 of the total 69,099 population) are mainline Protestant. Other popular denominations include Catholicism (8,647) and evangelical Protestantism (8,406).
In Pendleton County, about 52 percent of people are religious. There are just about equal numbers of evangelical and mainline Protestants.

In Hancock County, about 54 percent of people are religious. That makes it the second most religious county in the state. Most (7,780 of 30,676) are Catholic and fewer (4404) are evangelical Protestant and 3758 are mainline Protestant.
In Ohio County, 63 percent of people are religious. making it the most religious county in the state. Most Ohio County residents, a little more than 13,000 of the 44,443 total population (in 2010), are Catholic and about 8,900 are mainline Protestant.
