Wineries In West Virginia
Carolyn Harmon|January 10, 2024
What are some of the best wineries in West Virginia?
Lambert's Winery (Weston): This family-owned winery opened in 1992, and the building is worth the drive alone. It was crafted from hand-cut stones gathered from different places in West Virginia, some weighing up to 3,000 pounds! Take the tour and enjoy a glass of delicious wine by the fireplace. See the underground chapel. And if that's not enough, a unique surprise comes in the Hang-Over Treehouse Airbnb sitting high on a hill overlooking a pond. What more could you ever ask for?
Forks of Cheat Winery (Morgantown): At this stunning spot nestled in the Appalachian Mountains of north-central West Virginia, workers produce more than 20,000 gallons of prize-winning wines a year. Since its opening in 1990, this family-owned operation turned from a hobby into a business. The traditional, Appalachian fruit wines include blackberry, blueberry, pomegranate, cherry, apple, pear, peach, strawberry, and plum. Others include Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, port wines, and Chambourcin to name a few.
Chestnut Ridge (Spencer): This lovely space with unlimited views of the surrounding hills sits adjacent to the Ben’s Run trailhead. With plenty of places to sit and sip, inside and out, there is no need to rush. After all, the more than 30 varieties of wine may take a while to peruse. Seasonal wines are available, along with soaps and candles made by a local artisan. Head out and enjoy a leisurely afternoon in a gorgeous setting.
