The Old World Charm Of This West Virginia Restaurant Will Make You Feel Like You're In Paris

When it comes to Appalachian cuisine, one does not generally picture an old world style restaurant serving classic French delicacies. Until now.
The building that houses Bistro 112 was constructed around 1830, making the classic recipes they serve there a perfect complement to the old world vibe that penetrates the very walls of the small restaurant. The classic architecture combined with the stylized metal tables lining the walk looks very much like a 19th century oil painting.
The restaurant's interior is small, but not in a claustrophobic way. It suggests a type of intimate charm that make you feel more like a guest at someone's dinner table, rather than a customer in a restaurant.
In fact, that intimate charm can be shared at a communal table sitting on the patio outside, great for large parties.
But even better than the atmosphere is the farm-to-table food comprised entirely of locally sourced fresh ingredients.
The menu offers the French classic ratatouille, and an eclectic selection of salads that are a mixture of ingredients you won't typically find on American salads, such as grapes, hot peppers, candied walnuts and golden beets.
Certain appetizers offer more traditional selections of foods, such as grapes and cheeses, charcuterie and pommes frites (french fries).
Selections from their lunch menu include juicy burgers served on brioche rolls, bacon wrapped scallops on a bed of rice and green beans, ham and gruyere sandwiches, and several French-pressed sandwiches filled with a variety of items, including turkey, roast beef, pesto, and marinated grilled vegetables.
If you are more interested in dinner, you can start with an appetizer comprised of delicious seafood, such as mussels, scallops and shrimp. As you move on to the main course, try the Blackened French Moroccan dry-rub duck breast, or perhaps the penne pasta served with grass-fed ground beef. Then top it all off with their sweet and rich selection of desserts, such as the creme brulee or chocolate mousse.
Occasionally, the restaurant might even have some live music to entertain you will you dine.
So, whether dining inside, enjoying the muted colors and classic artwork, or dining outside, enjoying the view of the blooming garden, everything about the atmosphere and the impossibly fresh food will make you want to return to this bistro again and again.
Bistro 112 is located at 112 W German St. in Shepherdstown.
