The Iconic West Virginia Restaurant Where Nothing Has Changed In The Last 50 Years

Among the places to feel nostalgic about our past are the many restaurants around the state that have served generations of families. The iconic Morgantown business known as Mario’s Fishbowl is one of those, and it hasn’t changed (except for ownership) since 1963.

For more than 50 years, the restaurant located on Richwood Avenue in Morgantown has preserved not only their structure, but also the memories of literally hundreds of thousands of WVU students who frequently called the Fishbowl their home away from home.

Not only have WVU students and Morgantownians alike flocked to this nostalgic restaurant and bar for the food, which is delicious, they also head here for the most well-known serving of beer in these parts.

Known as 'the fishbowl' the large goblet filled with beer has long been a staple of the Fishbowl, tracing back all the way to 1963 when the previous owners sold their local confectionary formerly located in this same building. The new owners purchased the first large goblets from Morgantown Glassworks soon after and the legendary Mario's Fishbowl was begun.
