West Virginia has a lot of beautiful natural places, but we also have some great man-made places, too. Here are some of the fascinating things in the Mountain State that were built with human hands.
1. The Greenbrier
This grand hotel in White Sulphur Springs is known as America's Resort. It's an award-winning luxury hotel.
2. Prabhupada's Palace of Gold near Moundsville
This palace, built for Srila Prabhuapada, founder of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, has been called one of the religious wonders in the United States. It's also sometimes referred to as America's Taj Mahal.
3. The New River Gorge Bridge
The New River Gorge Bridge was for many years the world's longest single-span arch bridge. Its arch is 1,700 feet long. Now it is the third longest.
4. The state Capitol
The state Capitol, with its beautiful gold dome, was designed by Architect Cass Gilbert. It's one of the pretty places in the state.
5. The Keith Albee
Huntington's Keith Albee Theatre cost $2 million to built in 1928, was dubbed a "temple of amusement" by the local newspaper. They don't make them like that any more.
6. The Wheeling Suspension Bridge
Wheeling's Suspension Bridge was the largest suspension bridge in the world from 1849 until 1851.
7. The Green Bank Telescope
You could call the Green Bank Telescope a man-made wonder that helps you see natural wonders. It's the the world's largest fully steerable radio telescope and the world's largest moveable land object.
