Looking for a way to celebrate Independence Day this year? Look no further. West Virginia has plenty of parades, festivals and fireworks displays to get you in the mood to celebrate. Here’s a list of fireworks displays and events that are scheduled for this weekend’s holiday. (A couple are not directly Independence Day-related, but they are sure to be a good time.)
1. Alderson's Fourth of July Celebration
Events on Saturday include a parade, a hot-dog-eating contest, live music from Little Texas and of course fireworks.
2. Beckley's fireworks
Catch Beckley's fireworks Friday July 3 after 9:30 p.m. at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. There will also be fireworks Saturday after the West Virginia Miners baseball game.
3. Charleston fireworks
Charleston residents can catch fireworks after Live on the Levee Friday July 3 and July 4 at the West Virginia Power baseball game at Appalachian Power park.
4. Fairview’s “Our First Freedom”
There will be a parade and music and a talk from Jim Slade, a Morgantown native journalist and science correspondent. Fireworks start at 10 p.m.
5. The Fayetteville Lions Club Fourth of July Celebration
Featuring a farmers market, live music, a parade and fireworks at dusk
6. The Greenbrier Classic Concert Series
Celebrate freedom with Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert Friday at the West Virginia State Fair grounds.
7. The Homegrown Music and Arts Festival at Snowshoe.
Catch some live music by the Wild Rumpus (pictured) , Illusionary Field Unit, and Deer Creek Boys Village Plaza. The event is July 3 through 5.
8. Huntington
Huntington's fireworks will be Friday, July 3 this year.
9. Hurricane's Independence Day Celebration
Hurricane's July Fourth Celebration will be at the Hurricane Community Center and will include activities throughout the day.
10. Jefferson County's Independence Day Celebration and fireworks
Scheduled for Friday beginning at 2 p.m.
11. The West Virginia Freedom Festival in Logan
A car show, carnival and fireworks are all a part of this annual Logan County event that takes place the first weekend of July. It touts itself as the top Fourth of July celebration in Southern West Virginia.
12. Mannington's Old Fashioned 4th of July
Mannington W.V. will have its Good Old-Fashioned July 4 with a parade, a cakewalk and a corn hole tournament. There will also be a sky lantern ceremony
13. The July 4th Spectacular in Petersburg
The July 4th Spectacular in Petersburg will be July 3 and 4. There will be live music and fireworks.
14. The Point Pleasant Sternwheel Regatta
You gotta regatta at this event July 2 through 5 in Point Pleasant. Fireworks will start at 10 p.m. Saturday.
15. The Ripley 4th of July Celebration
Referred to as the country's largest small town Independence Day celebration, this year's event will feature entertainment by Denzon, Time Machine and Matt Fore. There's also a parade and of course fireworks at 10 p.m.
16.Fireworks at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke
The Stonewall Resort will have a fireworks display Friday at 9:45 p.m. There's a $5 per car charge.
17. Wellsburg Fourth of July Celebration
Wellsburg loves Independence Day so much they started celebrating in June! Check out live music, a parade and fireworks at this 9-day event.
18. Wheeling's July Fourth
Check at the Wheeling Symphony and guest artists Rosena Hill Jackson and Jason Jackson at Heritage Port Saturday. Fireworks will follow.
19. Windfest in Canaan Valley
Activities include a kite-building workshop and stunt kite demonstrations
July 2- through 5. There will be a fireworks display in nearby Thomas, WV on the 4th at 9 p.m.
