Do you love four legged friends? Do you love a good success story? Do you have a soft spot for dogs, especially a famous dog from West Virginia? We’ve got a little of both for you today, plus a bonus: information about one of the best distilleries in West Virginia!
Once upon a time, an energetic little border collie puppy was born ... to now jailed owners of a Tennessee puppy mill, joining hundreds of other dogs in tiny cages with no way to exercise or even space for waste. That puppy's tail was cut off so that she could be sold as an Australian shepherd instead of a border collie.
But she was rescued from the mill and sent to a shelter in New Orleans, where this little puppy was adopted by a family ... who neglected her. She wound up malnourished and in need of rescue again, this time by chicken farmers from Florida.
THIS was the life the puppy needed -- space to roam, work to do -- but because of lack of training as a pup, she just wanted to chase the chickens instead of protect them. Back to the shelter for our poor pup, who at this point was almost out of chances. Her euthanasia scheduled, the puppy was rescued yet again, in the nick of time, by a herding dog rescue group who placed the pup in two foster homes for recovery and training.
Finally, finally, this little dog was ready for a forever home: Lucy Pickles now lives with her very own family in West Virginia ... and she's the star of her very own distillery, to boot!
That's right, border collie Lucy Pickles is the mascot and Chief Fetching Officer of Swilled Dog in Upper Tract, West Virginia. Featured on cans and bottles of ciders, cocktails, spirits, and infusions, Lucy Pickles has achieved nearly world-wide fame. But even more important, she's happy, with space to run and work to do.
Not only that, but a portion of the proceeds from every Swilled Dog purchase goes back into helping other four legged friends find forever homes, too. Aww, Lucy Pickles! We're so happy you found your people!
