Here in West Virginia, we sure do love a good haunted house or spooky hayride through a forest, but every now and then when we’re feeling brave enough we like to go exploring real haunted destinations in our state. While every cemetery that you’ll cross paths with may have an eerie vibe, there’s one in particular here in our state that’s been known to be quite chilling.
Overlooking the Capitol of Charleston, the Spring Hill Cemetery Complex is one that's often visited for its beauty and scenic views.
What started off as one small cemetery eventually grew to be an entire complex made up of five individual areas after the land was purchased back in 1869.
Amongst B'nail Israel, Lowenstein, Mount Olivet, Mountain View, and Spring Hill Cemeteries, you'll see structures like the Spring Hill Mausoleum that was built back in 1910 and has been known to be quite spooky.
Out of all the different areas that have reported paranormal activity, the specific section known as Potter's Field is the one you'll hear about the most.
In Potter's Field, you'll find a large Oak tree that was reportedly the site of many hangings and now an area where today many claim to hear disturbing sounds as well as the sight of several spirits.
From floating orbs over headstones to haunted trees and the sounds of children, Spring Hill Cemetery Complex may not only be the largest cemetery in West Virginia, but also the most haunted!
