If you’re one of those people who love the adrenaline rush of being scared, Halloween is the best time of year for you. West Virginia has several haunted houses where you can go and get your fill of fright this Halloween season.
1. The Haunted Barn in Charleston.
This year’s theme is Dead Zone. It’s located in a warehouse at 426 Beauregard Street in Charleston. Dates will be Sept. 25 and 26, October 1-3, 8-10, 15-17, 22-24, 29-31, and Nov. 5.
2. Miller's Nightmare Haunted Farm
This will be the second year for this event in Frankford, W.Va. (Greenbrier County). It is is situated on two farms. The main farm has movies, bonfires and concession food available and the other has your scariest nightmares — an afflicted corn maze and a demented forest, according to its Facebook page.
3. Greyskull Manor in Clarksburg
This is a charity that supports the WVU Children’s Hospital. According to its Facebook page it has a new location this year, but it has not been announced yet.
4. The Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum
Set in a facility that’s already considered to be haunted, in the fall the Asylum Haunted House presents a scenario in which a demented doctor brings to life his patients’ nightmare. Their only purpose is to serve the doctor and his sadistic experiments. Dates will be Sept. 25, 26, 27, 30 and every day in October except Mondays and Tuesdays.
5. Haunted theatre at the Apollo Civic Theatre in Martinsburg
The Haunted Theatre will be Oct. 9, 17, 23, 24 and 30 at the theatre at 128 E. Martin Street in Martinsburg. Time will be 7 to 11 p.m.
6. The West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville
The former West Virginia Penitentiary, now a spooky tourist attraction, also does a staged Halloween drama each year. This year’s is called "Dungeon of Horrors." It opens Friday Sept. 25 and will be open on Fridays and Saturdays through Halloween. (Also on Sundays Oct. 18 and 25.) It takes about 45 minutes to walk through this haunted house.
I can’t wait to visit a few of these. How many of these have you been to? Did they scare you out of your mind? Let me know in the comments.
