Back to school looks a little (or a lot!) different for many of us this fall. While there are many downsides of attempting to school during this time, here’s an upside: you, your children, and/or your grandchildren may have more opportunity than ever before for experiential learning. And West Virginia is an excellent place to learn first hand about all sorts of things, including a wide range of history, science, and more! So plan a visit to one (or all) of these interesting, educational options:
Visit West Virginia's only Smithsonian Affiliate, Heritage Farm in Huntington, for a fascinating glimpse into what life was like for residents of West Virginia two hundred years ago.
Drive the Washington Heritage Trail from Harpers Ferry to Berkeley Springs to follow the footsteps of our first president as he explored one of his favorite areas of the nation--our state.
For a glimpse of local ancient history, head to the Grave Creek Mound in Moundsville, where you'll find a mound and a museum featuring the very first West Virginians.
The Green Bank Observatory is one of the most impressive structures in the state, standing taller than the Statue of Liberty. Plus, you can visit the on-site museum and learn all about astronomy!
7. West Virginia State Farm Museum (Point Pleasant)
Last but not least, the West Virginia State Farm Museum is perfect for an afternoon of educational fun. Learn all about farming, historic to modern, and view old equipment and buildings.
OF COURSE there are so many more places we could have included on this list, including almost all of our amazing West Virginia State Parks! What other spots would you add to this list?
