There aren’t many places in the world that bring a love of hot dogs and a love of barking dogs together into one perfect summer day. But, as unique as such a combination is, there are a few such magical hot dog and barking dog loving places scattered around the globe, and Huntington, West Virginia happens to be one of them. That’s right, this West Virginia city transforms into a double dog friendly paradise every July at the Hot Dog Festival in Huntington.
The West Virginia Hot Dog Festival features contests, live entertainment, a car show, crafts, inflatables, and family biking options, including the "Buns on Bikes" tours of Huntington.
The best part is that all this fun comes on top of hundreds of dogs: the hot dog variety from nearly a dozen local-favorite hot dog vendors, as many as you can eat, and the barking dog variety, as the entire festival is dog-friendly.
In addition to hotdog eating dog walkers galore, there's also some targeted fun just for the pups, including wiener races, all breed races, a dachshund dash, dog costume contests, and so very much more.
And, as a bonus, this unique festival isn't just for fun; it's also for a great cause. All proceeds go directly to kids receiving treatment at the local Hoops Family Children's Hospital.
The West Virginia Hot Dog Festival, in partnership with the hospital, i-Heart Media, and a large handful of local hot dog restaurants, has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for this important cause since the first West Virginia Hot Dog Festival in 2005.
