There’s no doubt that camping can be the stuff memories are made of. The outdoor adventure, the escape from routine, the reconnection to nature and to those you love, the chance to rejuvenate mind and body.
On the other hand, camping can also be the stuff of nightmares – bugs, ticks, skunks, unexpected rainstorms, unexpected cold snaps. So the question is, can you have the benefits of camping without the risk?
Enter Highlands View, just two miiles outside Petersburg, West Virginia. This unique venue, nestled in the Potomac Highlands of eastern West Virginia, is the ultimate in glamping: the excitement, privacy, and beauty of nature without the vagaries of weather or unpredictable wildlife.
At Highlands View, guests can enjoy a bell tent, a vintage camper, dining and recreation areas, and a view of the outdoors, all from within the confines of a massive glassed-in greenhouse structure. Step out of this spacious yet cozy space to enjoy the patio, fire pit, grill, and more stunning vistas of the surrounding mountain valleys.
In two adjoining buildings, you’ll find bathrooms and a mini kitchen.
As brilliant as the concept is, it is just as perfectly executed, with each space clean, well kept, comfortable, and warmly and thoughtfully decorated. No detail is forgotten, and the array of activities provided is astounding - from cornhole to scooters to laser tag.
You don't have to pick between nature and creature comforts at Highlands View!
Though you won’t find a stove (you are camping, after all!), you’ll have a crockpot, a coffee maker, an electric skillet, and a microwave... if you really don’t want to use the grill or the fire pit. There's room for up to seven guests; the camper sleeps four in two double beds and the tent sleeps three in a double and single bed.
The tent is handicapped accessible, and pets are allowed in the greenhouse. Smoking, parties, and events are not.
As if the accommodations were not enough, the surrounding area provides a wealth of outdoor adventure and beauty, between the renowned Dolly Sods Wilderness Area, Spruce Knob, North Fork Trail, Smoke Hole Caverns, and trout fishing in the North Fork of the Potomac. This is an area you’ll want to linger and enjoy.
But whatever you do during the day, be back at Highlands View in time to kick back and watch the sun set over the mountains.
Reserve the Highlands View on Airbnb here starting at $149 per night. A two-night minimum stay is required, and you can leave your umbrellas at home, because you don’t have to worry about rain under a canopy this big!
