If you want some lip-smacking-good, tastes-like-grandma-used-to-make country cooking, come to West Virginia. We specialize in comfort food – plateful after plateful of delicious, down-home comfort food. And one spot in West Virginia that serves up some of the best southern country cooking in the state is Diehl’s Family Restaurant in Nitro. The food here is so good, and the atmosphere so friendly, that this restaurant has been going strong for over sixty years.
In 1960, a dream came true. Jack and Hazel Diehl opened their own restaurant. Sixty years later, that restaurant is still going strong: Diehl's Family Restaurant in Nitro, West Virginia.
It's even still owned and operated by the Diehl family, three and four generations later.
The food here at Diehl's Restaurant is prepared fresh each day from scratch, just like the restaurants of yesteryear, and it tastes just as good as it always has. That's saying something, especially when you think of how much from-scratch food it takes to feed hungry customers for more than six decades!
It takes something like 4,754,500 pounds of potatoes, 376,800 pounds of pinto beans, and 10,900,000 rolls. It takes 735,000 pounds of apples, 2,150,000 pounds of beef, and 850,000 pounds of slaw. It takes 2,000,000 gallons of tea. It takes 850,000 gallons of ranch dressing.
Hungry? You can find Diehl's Restaurant at 152 Main Avenue in Nitro. They are open for lunch and dinner Tuesdays through Sundays, and they offer both dine-in and take-out. Diehl's Restaurant is one of the Kanawha Valley's best hidden gems - don't miss it next time you are passing through the area!
