This State Forest Is A Lush Natural Wonderland In West Virginia
Boasting over 12,700 acres of magnificent woodlands, Coopers Rock is West Virginia’s largest State Forest and holds a multitude of treasures for those who explore there. The forest runs the western ridge of Chestnut Ridge and drops down to the mighty Cheat River. The area abounds with history, wildlife, rugged mountainous terrain, and amazing overlooks. There are opportunities for camping, swimming, hiking, cross-country skiing, hunting, and fishing. Part of the forest is also managed by West Virginia University and serves as a living classroom for forestry and ecology.
Coopers Rock State Forest is located roughly 12 miles east of Morgantown off I-68. This beautiful place is easy to get to and there is always something new to explore!
