The major highways in West Virginia are:

  • I-64: The longest highway in WV at about 189 miles. Enters at the Virginia state line near White Sulpher Springs and exits at the Kentucky state line near Ashland, KY.
  • I-68: Enters at the Maryland state line near Friendsville, MD, and runs 31.5 miles until it exits in Morgantown, WV.
  • I-70: A short stint at the Pennsylvania state line near Wheeling for 14 miles until it exits at the Ohio state line in Wheeling.
  • I-77: Enters at the Ohio state line in Marietta and runs for 187 miles until it exits at the Virginia state line near Bluefield.
  • I-79: Another long highway at about 160 miles. Enters at the Pennsylvania state line near Mount Morris, PA, and exits near Charleston.
  • I-81: I-81 enters the state briefly from the northeast on the outskirts of the Washington DC area between Maryland and Virginia. It runs parallel to the Shenandoah River for a while through Virginia before exiting at the southwest corner of Virginia.
