It’s hard to find an ice cream shop with a better, longer-lasting reputation than Austin’s Homemade Ice Cream in Ceredo, West Virginia. Established in 1947, and owned and operated by the same family over the past 40 years, Austin’s is now a pillar of the community with a booming business that serves up some of the best ice cream in all of West Virginia.
Joyce Snyder purchased the business in 1983 and turned it into a local legend. Finally, at 80, she turned over the establishment to her children and grandchildren. Four years ago, Austin's opened a second location at the Market in downtown Huntington, and pandemic notwithstanding, the business continues to go strong.
Recently, Austin's celebrated its 75th anniversary in style - with massive customer turnout and 75 prizes including merchandise, apparel, and, of course, free ice cream - including vouchers for free ice cream for the rest of the year! This is only one way that Austin's gives back to their community - they generously support a number of local charities.
The owners are clear about what they believe is the secret of their longevity - customer loyalty. That's easy to confirm from the business Austin's sees around the clock. Customers, in turn, make it clear what they love about Austin’s: unique, superlative, homemade ice cream. And it's not hard to see why that is, either. Austin's offers a huge array of flavors - forty at a time but hundreds altogether.
The chefs at Austin's are constantly experimenting and refining their product in new and creative ways. (Follow their Facebook page so you don't miss any of them!) But the traditional flavors are always a win, too - such as the chocolate and vanilla flavors that have both won national awards.
Austin’s Homemade Ice Cream has now become a local tradition – their original generation of ice cream customers are now bringing back their kids to experience the longstanding goodness. As summer ramps up, visit either of Austin’s locations and taste the goodness for yourself!
