Tucked away deep in the forest in the heart of West Virginia’s coal country is a quiet cove. It’s a beautiful, calm oasis in McDowell County, made even more picturesque by a quaint, arched footbridge that crosses the lake from shore to shore. The name of this charming spot? Berwind Lake.
Not far from War, West Virginia in McDowell County lies 20-acre Berwind Lake, the center of 85-acre Berwind Lake Wildlife Management Preserve.
Because of its small size, hunting is limited on the wildlife preserve, although raccoon, deer, and turkey can be harvested.
But Lake Berwind is equipped with a Class-Q fishing pier and is a good spot to hook warm-water species like trout, largemouth bass, bluegill, and channel catfish.
It's a quaint, arched, boardwalk bridge that feels like something out of a fairytale, both when you're crossing it and when you're looking at its span across the lake, backed by rugged mountains.
Have you ever strolled across the magical bridge that spans Berwind Lake? Or taken a picture of it from the far shore, or even by drone? If so, please share it with us in the comments!
