West Virginia State Parks are amazing. They’re beautiful, they’re well cared for, and they’re always free. Truly, they are one of the treasures of our state. One of our favorites is Babcock State Park in Fayette County.

Babcock State Park is 4,127 acres of breathtaking beauty.

Constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps and opened in 1937, the park showcases the beautiful forests and canyons of Glade Creek and Manns Creek.
Many of the park buildings are original, dating back to the 1930s.

The park is perhaps best known for the Glade Creek Grist Mill, an operational mill that was constructed using parts of other vintage mills from around the state.
The park is well-known for its splendor in the fall, but other seasons offer a beauty all their own.

Stunning wildflower displays (especially rhododendron, but myriads of varieties can be seen) appear in spring, bird watching and glimpses of many types of wildlife can be seen in summer, and you'll find gorgeous snow blankets and natural ice art in winter.

It follows the cascade of Manns Creek and along the grade of Manns Creek Railway, which closed in 1956. Old rail ties and other railroad artifacts are plentiful along the hike.
