As summer winds down, it’s time to start marking off your calendar for those annual fall celebrations that promise to be bucket loads of fun. One for sure that you won’t want to miss is the West Virginia Apple Butter Festival on Columbus Day Weekend. Filled with yummy treats, kooky contests, and entertainment galore, this family-friendly event is one you won’t want to miss.
The 46th Annual Apple Butter Festival will take place October 12-13, 2019. The traditional harvest festival in Berkeley Springs has no admission fee and features activities designed to keep all ages entertained. Bring the whole family to enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes of this marvelous event.
The festival is kicked off with a hometown parade that makes a two-mile pass through town. The parade commences at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning leading way to the other festival activities which begin at 10 a.m.
At center stage of this harvest event, is the making of the apple butter. It is stirred in giant kettles in the middle of the square and everyone can have a chance to stir the spicy apple mixture.
Since the festival's beginning in 1974, the Beard and Moustache Contest has been a sure-fire hit. Start growing your facial hair now guys, you could win a blue ribbon for having the prettiest whiskers around!
There are plenty of fun and games for everyone. Turtle races, hog calling, a raw egg toss, and more mean plenty of blue ribbon opportunities.
More than 200 vendors spread out in the park selling arts and crafts, antiques, canned goods, and more. You'll also find a farmer's market with fresh produce and a wine-tasting area featuring local vineyards.
Don't forget to pick up some of that delicious apple butter to take home!
