Chelan and the always-charming Port Townsend also get a lot of local recommendations, and Walla Walla is certainly having a moment. So it was a bit surprising to see Yakima on a list of the coolest towns in America to visit in 2021 — but we’re glad this beautiful valley is finally getting some of the recognition it deserves.

Yakima has a character that is all its own, and that's exactly the way we like it.

The area produces more than 75% of the hops in America, so the odds are good that you've had Yakima hops.

Bale Breaker is officially the third largest independent craft brewery in Washington, which is no easy task since it was founded in 2013.

There are all kinds of beautiful places to taste in the area, such as Bonair Winery.

The Yakima Valley is home to more than 17,000 acres of vineyards and more than 120 wineries. We do not recommend seeking out all 120 on the same visit.

Restaurants such as Crafted and Cowiche Canyon use local purveyors whenever possible.

Owners Dan and Mollie and their talented team really put that local produce and meat to good use.

The city is well-known for events, such as the Fresh Hop Ale Festival and Downtown Summer Nights.

This historic hotel has some exquisite rooms and suites, and they're a fraction of the price they'd be in a big city.

It's also very laid back. No one would blame you if you existed entirely on wine, craft beer, and street tacos during your time here.
