Kayaking is such a quintessential pastime in Washington, and for good reason. The Pacific Northwest is such an idyllic spot for kayaking, that even those of us who are in no way “outdoorsy” can’t help but be drawn to the idea of paddling through our crystal blue waters, hoping to spot some wildlife.
For years, Anacortes Kayak Tours has offered guided tours for the novices and experienced among us alike. And if you’re up for a real adventure, their overnight getaway to Cypress Island is exceptional.
Designed to be the easiest and most convenient two-day kayaking tour in the San Juan Islands, this is a fantastic option for a beginning kayaker (or an expert who just loves being in nature).
This is considered the least physically demanding multi-day tour. And although it will take you between three and five hours to reach the island, you'll have plenty of chances to stop and rest, including a break for lunch.
You and your expert guides will from Anacortes, then paddle along the shorelines of neighboring Guemes Island.
This is where you'll probably see seals hunting for a salmon lunch or porpoises swimming through the sea (and again, there's a possibility of whale sightings).
Professional guiding service, all kayaking equipment, all of your healthy, delicious meals and snacks, cooking equipment, camping equipment, and necessary permits are provided for you. You will want to bring rain gear, sleeping bags, personal items like toiletries, alcoholic beverages if you'd like them (sunset toast, anyone?), and any small items you'll need to be comfortable.
Kayaking to Cypress Island is a magical experience, and this allows you to do it without spending a fortune on gear.
