Here in Washington, we get pretty excited when new restaurants come to town. But we also have a special appreciation for those classic eateries that have been around for decades, serving consistently tasty food. Today, we’re giving a shout-out to a few of our favorites.
1. Whitehouse-Crawford Restaurant, 55 W Cherry St., Walla Walla
This elegant eatery has been serving the Walla Walla community for decades, and the building dates all the way back to 1904. The regional cuisine is consistently delicious.
2. The Spar Tavern, 2121 N. 30th St., Tacoma
The Spar is Tacoma's oldest saloon, and they've been around long enough to earn a great reputation. It could be the tasty food served at reasonable prices or the upbeat atmosphere.
3. Spud Fish & Chips, 2666 Alki Ave. SW, Seattle
Since 1935, Spud Fish & Chips has been serving tasty seafood from their shop at Alki Beach. Generations of Washingtonians have fond memories of grabbing lunch there, and the business is still going strong.
4. Churchill's Steakhouse, 165 S. Post St., Spokane
For decades, Churchill's Steakhouse has been a popular special occasion spot in Spokane. And despite the influx of new eateries in the area, it remains a local favorite.
5. Michael's on the Lake, 910 W. Broadway Ave., Moses Lake
Whether it's date night, a special occasion, or just an average Thursday when you're craving a great meal, Michael's is a favorite in Moses Lake, and it has been for decades.
6. McMenamins Spar Café, 114 4th Ave. E., Olympia
For the last 70 years, the Spar Cafe has been serving scrumptious food to the Olympia community. Now that it's own by the McMenamin family, it has their telltale flair (and menu items).
7. Gasperetti's Gourmet Restaurant, 1013 N 1st St., Yakima
If you grew up in Yakima, you probably celebrate a special occasion or two at Gasperetti's -- this family owned eatery has been around since 1943. The food and ambiance are just as amazing as ever.
8. Horseshoe Cafe, 113 E Holly St., Bellingham
It may be the oldest continuously operating cafe & cocktail lounge in Washington, but the team at the Horseshoe Cafe continues to make the menu new and exciting. Dining here is a rite of passage for Washingtonians.
9. Maneki Restaurant, 304 6th Ave. S., Seattle
Maneki opened in 1904, so it's a true Seattle landmark. And while you'll find plenty of places for great sushi in the Emerald City, this one is still a favorite.
10. Palace Cafe, 323 N. Main St., Ellensburg
The Palace Cafe has been an Ellensburg icon for over 100 years. Not only is it still a great place to eat, it's still owned by the Bugni family, the owners since 1966.
